I tried to follow C++ as requested, while staying consistent with wording elsewhere in the C standard, where we previously decided to say "excluding any digit separators", and using "unsuffixed" as for constant macros although formally redundant with the syntax for decimal-literal (but when the wording in in C99 relied on the fact that the syntax for decimal-constant etc. did not include suffixes, that confused people). The following proposed wording is based on C2y draft [N3886](https://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n3886.pdf); for C23 (as amended by [issue 1016](issue:1016)), "integer literal" and "decimal literal" should be read as "integer constant" and "decimal constant". Change 6.10.10.2 Mandatory macros: > `__LINE__` The presumed line number (within the current source > file) of the current source line (an integer literal `0` > or an unsuffixed decimal literal (6.4.5.2), excluding any > digit separators), representing the presumed line > number of the current source line within the current source > file. -- Joseph S.
