Subject: N3418 proposes the opposite of existing practice

Hey folks.
I was informed that N3418
<https://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n3418.pdf> was approved
at the last meeting.

The link in the paper does not show the correct demonstration of the
affected wording/feature.
Here is a better example https://godbolt.org/z/56GhG1n63

You will notice that most compilers, and certainly all major compilers,
accept that code.

I also want to point out that all C++ compilers accept that code,
which is mandated
by the standard <https://eel.is/c++draft/cpp#concat-note-1>
(the change was applied as a DR a few years ago by
https://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2023/p2621r2.pdf)

I don't know how much discussion was in the room, but I don't think N3418
offered a sufficient analysis of the status quo.
It's indeed rather light on details.

I also want to point out that for most implementations, UCN formed by
concatenation just falls out naturally of the implementation, so N3418
constitutes an additional implementation burden - rather than making things
simpler for anyone.

Were these points brought up in Graz?

Thanks,

Corentin
