CEN/TC304 N884

Title: Cooperation report on CEN/TC304 related work

Source: SC2 cooperation officer to CEN/TC304, Keld Simonsen

Date: 6 March 1999

CEN/TC304 does not have any specific cooperation statements to send to JTC1/SC2.

A project on adopting IS 10646 as a European Standard has been cancelled. This is in line with the current position adopted by the National Bodies of CEN, i.e. no ISO/IEC standards in the field of IT will be transposed into European standards, unless there is a compelling reason to do so, as those standards can be referred to as such and also transposed directly into national standards where needed.

A project on creating subsets of IS 10646, (MES-1, MES-2, MES-3) for inclusion in IS 10646-1 is being progressed in an independent CEN/ISSS workshop. No consensus has been reached yet.

A project on the Euro currency sign has been progressed in TC304. The draft for the final report will be submitted to the TC Plenary of April 1999 for approval, after which it will be formally submitted to the European Commission. The current draft is available from: http://www.stri.is/TC304/Euro/N881.html

A number of TC304 related projects are progressing, such as locales for Europe, alphabets for European languages, European sorting, character set transformation, cultural heritage, and population of the cultural registry.

Please be invited to the CEN/ISSS workshop projects. Participation is free and open to all interested in the subjects. To participate sign up on http://www.cenorm.be/isss/Workshop/Workshops.htm
