Subject: URGENT: Future meetings of WG5
MIME-Version: 1.0

WG5 members,

Matthijs van Waveren is still exploring the possibility of hosting a
WG5 meeting in the Netherlands next year. He has not said 'no'
definitely yet, but I feel that I need to consider alternatives. He is
also exploring the possibility of doing it in the summer of 2003.

I had been led to believe that it would always be easy to arrange
a back-to-back meeting in Las Vegas. I have exchanged emails with
Dan and our tentative concluson is that it would be a good idea to
sandwich a WG5 meeting around a J3 meeting to take six days in all,
either Sunday-Friday or Monday-Saturday. Perhaps have the J3
meeting as usual from Monday morning until mid-day on Friday and
WG5 meetings all day on Sunday and on Friday afternoon.

Mallory thinks this is prefectly feasible, but we need to move quickly
since he is in the midst of signing contracts now for meetings in 2002
as follows:

Meeting 160: Feb. 25 - March 1

Meeting 161: May 13 - 17

Meeting 162: August 12 - 16

Meeting 163: November 11 - 15

Please can I have your views very soon (this week) on meeting with
J3 in this way next year either August 11 - 16 or August 12 - 17?

Looking further ahead, the current plan for WG5 meetings is

2002/08 Netherlands?
2003/04 USA (1st CD ballot resolution)
2003/08 tba

I would appreciate your thoughts on having one (even both) of the
2003 meetings as 6-day meetings in Las Vegas.

With best wishes,

John.
