Dear Friends of Fortran,
After many years at CERN here in Geneva, Switzerland, I am about to depart
for pastures new, in Bonn, Germany. There, I intend to set up as a part-time
consultant. However, I shall continue to maintain links with the world of
Fortran and, in particular, I shall continue to maintain and distribute the
monthly Information File. That started life five years ago with just one
compiler and three books! So please keep sending me your updates. This month's
edition is in the following message. Also, I shall be accepting Wolfgang
Walter's kind invitation to join the German DIN Fortran group, and will
work more closely with Walt Brainerd and his Fortran Market and Imagine1,
Inc. And John Reid and I have plans for you too!
Between Friday and mid-January I'm likely to be out of electronic contact.
I shall return on-line with a new e-mail address, but this one will remain
valid for some considerable time, courtesy of my present employer.

                   Season's Greetings to you all,

                                Mike Metcalf

There follows a commercial break:

ANNOUNCEMENT
------------

Michael Metcalf, formerly of CERN, Switzerland, and an ex-member of
X3J3 and WG5, is now an independent consultant based in Bonn, Germany.

Over the years he has developed a highly successful Fortran 90 course
that lasts for six 75-minute sessions. He has adapted this course to F,
and is happy to negotiate holding either version anywhere in the world.
The courses are based on the books "Fortran 90/95 Explained" and "The F
programming language" of which he is co-author (with John Reid).

These courses are suitable for graduates and faculty members, or
equivalent level, and are a useful way to 'kick-start' a Fortran 90
or an F activity at a given site.

He can be contacted at michael.metcalf@cern.ch, or at

Jahnallee 3,
53173 Bonn,
Germany
