                                                    ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5 N1163

RESOLUTIONS OF THE WG5 MEETING ON 6 TO 10 NOVEMBER 1995
                             IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

Resolutions S1 to S15 were passed by unanimous consent, S16 and S17 by
unanimous acclaim.

S1. Convenor of WG5
That WG5 congratulates Miles Ellis on being appointed WG5 convenor following
the SC22 ballot on the convenorship.

S2. Liaison with SC24/WG5 (Graphics)
That WG5 appoints John Reid as its liaison to SC24/WG5 (Graphics).

S3. Revised Strategic Plan
That WG5 adopts document WG5-N1151 as its revised strategic plan and WG5-N1152
as the revised procedures for processing technical reports of type 2.

S4. Appreciation of X3J3
That WG5 expresses its most sincere appreciation to X3J3 for progressing
development of the draft Fortran 95 document ahead of the schedule in the
Fortran strategic plan; in particular it expresses thanks to Richard Maine for
his sterling work as editor and to Janice Shepherd for so effectively leading
the Fortran 90 maintenance project.

S5. Content of Fortran 95 DIS
That WG5 intends to submit a draft revised standard for Fortran for DIS ballot
in February 1996, the content of which will be document WG5-N1122, as amended
by document WG5-N1153.

Further, WG5 endorses the procedure described in WG5-N1160 for incorporating
edits arising from defect items into the Fortran 95 DIS and gives the Project
Editor licence to make those additional editorial changes which may be
necessary to ensure the consistency of the document.

S6. Technical Corrigendum 3
That WG5 intends to produce a third, final, Technical Corrigendum for the
current Fortran standard in February 1996, the content of which will be as
described in document WG5-N1161. All corrections in this Technical
Corrigendum will be incorporated in the Fortran 95 DIS before submission to
SC22. Publication of resolved defects is necessary since the Fortran 90
standard may be the basis of legal or other contractual requirements.

S7. Maintenance Body for Fortran 95
That WG5 invites X3J3 to act as maintenance body for Fortran 95.

S8. Requirements for Fortran 2000 Revision
That WG5 adopts document WG5-N1155 as a first detailed specification of the
content of the 2000/2001 revision of Fortran and requests member bodies to
submit any further requirements to the convenor no later than 15 March 1996.

S9. Handling Floating Point Exceptions
That WG5 confirms its intent to produce a Technical Report before March 1997
on handling floating point exceptions in Fortran with John Reid as Project
Editor. The proposed content of this technical report will follow the
direction outlined in document WG5-N1149.

S10. Interoperability with C
That WG5 confirms its intent to produce a Technical Report before March 1997
on interoperability with C and nominates Michael Hennecke as Project Editor in
place of Miles Ellis. WG5 encourages the development body to monitor the
developments of HPFF and the ISO C language committee in this area.

Further, WG5 instructs its convenor to inform SC22 of the change of Project
Editor.

S11. Data Type Enhancements
That WG5, following SC22 resolution 95-5, intends to produce a Technical
Report before March 1997, with Malcolm Cohen as Project Editor, on allocatable
components, allocatable dummy arguments and allocatable function results.
Further, WG5 encourages the technical report development body to assist Steve
Morgan in refining the proposals for enhancing parameterized derived types for
consideration at the next WG5 meeting.

Further, WG5 instructs its convenor to inform SC22 of this change of scope.

S12. Conditional Compilation in Fortran
That WG5 intends to produce a new part of the Fortran standard to address the
needs of the Fortran user community for conditional compilation.

WG5 accepts the offer of the US member body to nominate David Epstein as
project editor and requests him to form a development body and to produce
alternative proposals in this area for consideration at the next WG5 meeting.

S13. Interval Arithmetic
That WG5 is aware of interest amongst scientific programmers in the area of
interval arithmetic, thanks Baker Kearfott and DIN for bringing this to the
attention of the committee, and invites Baker Kearfott in conjunction with
other members and member bodies to make proposals for further action,
including specification of requirements.

S14. Development Body for Fortran 2000 Revision
That WG5 invites X3J3 to act as development body (the "primary development
body") for the 2000/2001 revision of Fortran.

S15. Electronic Distribution of Documents
That WG5 establishes the principles for electronic distribution of WG5
documents outlined in WG5-N1154.

S16. Vote of Thanks for Support for Meeting
That WG5 thanks the US member body, and most especially individual members of
X3J3, and General Atomics for generously supporting the meeting.

S17. Vote of Thanks
That WG5 wishes to express its appreciation to the convenor (Miles Ellis), the
secretary (Malcolm Cohen), the librarian (Kurt Hirchert), the drafting
committee and particularly the host (Ted Terpstra) for their contributions to
the success of the meeting.

Further that WG5 wishes to thank the staff of the Ramada Inn for their willing
cooperation throughout the meeting.
