Dear WG5 coworkers,

at the last meeting in Tokyo, I proposed to host the next meeting
in Dresden, the capital of Saxony, where I have been teaching at
the Technical University for a bit over a year now. All the
"behind-the-scenes" talk seems to have resulted in a preferred
date for that meeting:

   September 9 - 13, 1996 in Dresden

Since we will have to arrive at a decision soon - certainly by the
end of the San Diego WG5 meeting - I would like to ask all potential
attendees to please send me a short note indicating

   a. What is the likelihood that you will be able to attend this
meeting, independently of the exact date?

   b. Will the proposed date make it impossible or more difficult
      for you to attend?

If many people have problems with this date, we may be able to meet
a week earlier. Later seems to be out of the question because the
X3J3 meeting has to be the following week, and that will already be
extremely close to the SC22 Plenary.

One other piece of information that would also be very useful for
me in making arrangements is whether a good "standard" hotel in
the center of Dresden at about 150 Deutsche Mark (approx. 100$)
for a single is too costly? There are alternatives, starting
at about half that price: bed & breakfast, small hotels just
outside the city, and a simple, but nicely refurnished hotel/
guest house (near the center) without running water in the rooms
(all facilities available on every floor).

Dresden and its surroundings have a lot to offer historically and
culturally, so I am hoping that we will have some spare time to take
advantage of some of that. Both Berlin and Prague are about 2-3 hours
away, by train or by car, so when you get bored with Dresden and the
castles, you may want to go there as well. I will try to give you
some more concrete ideas in San Diego.

Well, I hope to hear from you soon, see many of you in San Diego
and at least as many in Dresden.

With best regards,

Wolfgang
