The BSI agreed to accept responsibility for the WG5 Secretariat after it was relinquished by the US and has appointed Miles Ellis as Convenor. There will be a three- month SC22 ballot to approve this appointment, but that is a formality. Miles will Chair the Tokyo WG5 meeting. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 12 years as Convenor and I extend my best wishes to my successor. Miles has been involved in Fortran standardization for many years as a member of WG5 and X3J3. He has taught Fortran and written at least two excellent Fortran textbooks. The future of WG5 is in good hands.
