SC22/WG20 N621 1998-10-21 Title: Statement from SC22/WG20 regarding the Year 2000 compliance of their standards Source: SC22/WG20 Status: approved This document was prepared in response to a JTC1 request, contained in an e-mail from Lisa Rajchel on September 23, 1998, asking for information about the potential impact of Year 2000 compliance considerations of standards, developed in working group SC22/WG20. Please find below the WG20 response: SC22/WG20 has the following Technical Reports and International Standards in its program of work. For each of them, the potential Year 2000 impact is specified as follows: TR 11017 - Framework for internationalization This TR contains no date related processing requirements. TR 10176 - Guideline for preparation of programming language standards This TR contains no date related processing requirements. FCD 14651 - International string ordering The informative annex of this standard includes information about Year 2000 compliant comparisons of dates. CD 14652 - Specification method for cultural conventions This standard has no provisions which prevent implementations from being Year 2000 compliant. IS 15897 - Registry of cultural elements This standard has no provisions which prevent implementations from being Year 2000 compliant. WD 15435 - Internationalization API The API for "string to time" conversion specification will include guidance for Year 2000 compliance. WG20 is making sure that their work will not pose any problem in context with the Year 2000 compliance. Where appropriate, explicit warnings are given. No provision of the standards will prevent Year 2000 compliant implementations. This document was approved by WG20 in its meeting in Tel Aviv on October 21, 1998 for forwarding to the SC22 and JTC1 secretariats.
