There has been correspondence among the committee members, and an electronic ballot has been conducted. ISO/IEC 7185:1990 Pascal defines the simple base language. It was reconfirmed in 2000 for a further period. The U.S. Pascal standard is a reference to this document, and in a ballot earlier this year the committee recommended that it be classified as a "stabilised standard". ISO/IEC 10206:1991 defines the Extended Pascal language. It was reconfirmed in 2001 for a further period, and was adopted as the US standard in place of the ANSI/IEEE definition, which was identical in technical content. The possibility of making this a stabilized standard was rejected at that time. The implementation of Extended Pascal for Windows continues to prove useful as a vehicle for porting code from older versions to present-day machines. Tony Hetherington Project Editor
