Pascal Report to SC22 Plenary                  August 2003


The current Pascal and Extended Pascal standards are under 
maintenance within J9 and no major developments are  
contemplated at this time.  There has been correspondence 
among the committee members, and an electronic ballot has 
been conducted. 

ISO/IEC 7185:1990 Pascal defines the simple base language. 
It was reconfirmed in 2000 for a further period.  The U.S. 
Pascal standard is a reference to this document, and in a 
ballot earlier this year the committee recommended that it 
be classified as a "stabilised standard". 

ISO/IEC 10206:1991 defines the Extended Pascal language. 
It was reconfirmed in 2001 for a further period, and was 
adopted as the US standard in place of the ANSI/IEEE 
definition, which was identical in technical content.  
The possibility of making this a stabilized standard was 
rejected at that time. 

The implementation of Extended Pascal for Windows continues 
to prove useful as a vehicle for porting code from older 
versions to present-day machines.
