Scope Mechanisms for expressing constraints on classes of topic maps conforming to ISO/IEC 13250:2000

Purpose and justification

  • To enable the documentation of the structure and semantics of a class of topic maps.
  • To provide a foundation for defining vertical or domain specific applications of topic maps.
  • To provide means of validation to ensure consistency within a topic map or across a class of topic maps.
  • To enable applications to provide easier and more intuitive user interfaces for creating and maintaining topic maps.
  • To enable the separation of the tasks of modeling and populating topic maps.
