ISO TC184/SC4 has met twice since the last SC34 meeting in Granada. During that time, the following activities have occurred:

The XML Representation of EXPRESS Driven Data New Work Item was approved as Part 28 of ISO 10303. BSI funded development of the first draft of a Part 28 specification. The U.S. DoD JECPO office also funded two workshops to examine and refine the XML Early Binding design developed for the U.S. Air Force PDML effort. The output of the these workshops was taken as technical input to the full Part 28 effort.
Technical work continued on the STEP and SGML Harmonization effort. The main accomplishment was the development of an EXPRESS model of the instance-level representation of HyTime links and location addresses. This model reflects the HyTime architecture, as opposed to the HyTime semantic grove (which is the result of applying HyTime semantics to the instance structures in order to resolve references and construct resolved hyperlinks).

Expected activities for year 2000 include:

A Part 28 Editor's workshop to be held in January to prepare a solid draft of Part 28 in advance of the next TC184/SC4 meeting.
TC184/SC4 meeting first week of February in Melbourne, Australia. The goal is to have CD-ready draft of Part 28 out of this meeting.
Complete documentation of SGML and SGML Harmonization work by March 2000.
