                            SCOPE OF SC7


BACKGROUND:

At the August 1998 JTC 1/SC22 Plenary, the Secretariat was instructed to
provide to the SC22 Member Bodies the current and previous scope
statements for SC2.  (See SC22 N2806, resolution 98-9.)


SCOPE OF SC7 (prior to June 1997)

"Development of guidelines for the management techniques and
standardization of supporting methods and tools necessary for the
development and testing of software."


SCOPE OF SC7 (after June 1997)

"Standardization of processes, supporting tools, and supporting
technologies for the engineering of software products and systems.

"Note:  The processes, tools and technologies are within the scope of JTC
1 terms of reference and exclude specific tools and technologies that have
been assigned by JTC 1 to other of its SCs."
